Job Description

Warehouse Manager – Night Shift

Sunday – Thursday: 7PM – 4.30AM

£38,000 – £42,000, dependant on level of experience 

People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Warehouse Manager on a night shift to join our well-established client based in Hereford on a full-time permanent basis.

Day to Day Duties

  • Inspire and lead the night team by ensuring appropriate staffing levels and organising shift cover in line with fluctuating pick and load volumes
  • Supervise all night shift personnel, ensuring adherence to company standards, policies, and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook
  • Provide coaching, support, and training where necessary to maintain performance and morale
  • Monitor and maintain high standards of picking accuracy in line with company KPIs. Identify root causes of errors and implement continuous improvement strategies through effective team management
  • Oversee the safe and efficient loading of vehicles, ensuring items are correctly packed for smooth offloading
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the accuracy and safety of all outgoing loads handled by the night team
  • Review and assess existing processes regularly, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance operational efficiency and productivity
  • Ensure all orders are accurately picked and clearly laid out by vehicle in their designated bay areas, ready for timely dispatch
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards by ensuring vehicles are left clean, organised, and in a presentable condition for drivers at the start of their shift
  • Enforce and champion health and safety protocols, with particular attention to the safe operation of forklifts, vehicles, and the handling of heavy goods
  • Proactively escalate any concerns to HR in a timely manner
  • Set a professional example by consistently maintaining a smart appearance in full company uniform
  • Ensure all team members are equipped with the correct PPE and adhere to uniform standards

Essential Skills

  • Team Leadership & Supervision experience gained within an Industrial setting is essential 
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively on night shifts
  • Solid understanding of picking, packing, loading, and stock control procedures
  • Accuracy in stock handling, order picking, and documentation to avoid errors
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse safety practices and compliance with regulations (especially around forklifts, manual handling, and night operations)
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly and make confident decisions under pressure
  • Strong organisational skills to manage shift tasks efficiently and meet tight deadlines
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication for team briefings, handovers, and reporting
  • IT & System Proficiency
  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), handheld scanners, or stock tracking software.
  • There is a physical element to this role which requires applicants to be able to undertake manual handling activities safely.

Desirable Experience

  • Forklift Truck licence – Bendi forklift experience is desirable, but not essential as full training will be provided
  • Knowledge of route planning or logistics to support efficient van loading and dispatch
  • Experience working with ERP or advanced WMS systems
  • Lean or Six Sigma awareness to support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience conducting training and inductions
