Job Description
New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer
Monday – Friday: 7am – 4pm
£40,000 per annum
People Solutions are currently recruiting for a New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer to join our well-established client based in Stourbridge, WEST MIDLANDS on a full-time permanent basis.

Day to Day Duties
- Provide clear updates to customers and stakeholders, including weekly reports and pre-production briefings
- Coordinate cross-functional action plans between departments to support NPI and prototype activity
- Manage and document each stage of the NPI process using structured, measurable checkpoints
- Oversee sample and prototype casting processes from start to finish
- Liaise with tooling engineers, external suppliers, and technical contractors (e.g. pattern shops, scanning/measurement providers)
- Prioritise in-house development to minimise outsourcing and control costs
- Monitor quality of outgoing products and work to reduce both internal and external scrap
- Support projects aimed at yield improvement and reduction of non-value-added activities
- Review production and workflow documentation for accuracy, traceability, and effectiveness
- Ensure sound development casting methods and improve manufacturing parameters
- Document and reduce rework while identifying opportunities to lower tooling and production costs
- Identify, support, and coordinate procurement of new tools and resources for new projects
- Create weekly and monthly status reports for internal management visibility
- Champion and embed a "right first time" approach in all stages of development
- Facilitate smooth handover of new products into full-scale production
- Continuously seek and implement best practices and process improvements
- Promote lean principles and continuous improvement within NPI activities
- Support and apply casting simulation software in process development and troubleshooting
- Maintain and improve quality control systems in line with VFL standards
- Analyse and report defects, produce Pareto charts, and create timing plans to address top issues
- Act as a positive role model within the department to encourage change and improvement
Essential Skills
- Strong understanding of New Product Introduction processes and lifecycle
- Knowledge of quality tools and systems: DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, APQP
- Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management
- Proven project management skills in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and CAD models
- Competence in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and other reporting/documentation tools
- Understanding of foundry processes, tooling, and prototype development
- Data-driven decision-making with a focus on continuous improvement
- Ability to identify and resolve quality and process issues effectively
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and waste-reduction methodologies
Desirable Experience
- Experience with solidification simulation software (desirable)
- Experience working in a casting environment
- Knowledge of solidification and flow simulation software (e.g., MAGMASOFT, ProCAST)
- Degree or formal qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering
- Experience working with OEM customers and supporting customer audits
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and other quality management systems
- Previous involvement in tooling design or rigging layout for cast components
- Understanding of machining and post-processing operations related to castings
- Experience managing prototype to production transitions
- Lean Six Sigma training or experience with Kaizen, 5S, or value stream mapping
- Strong knowledge of supply chain coordination and working with subcontractors
