We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Site Carpentry Vocational Trainer to deliver City & Guilds qualifications up to Level 3 at HMP Millsike. You’ll train and mentor small groups of prison based learners in practical and theoretical carpentry skills, supporting rehabilitation through employability, literacy, and safe working practices — including working at height.

This is a rewarding role that combines trade expertise with a commitment to education, restorative practice, and positive transformation.

What you’ll do:

Deliver high-quality training in site carpentry aligned with City & Guilds curriculum, covering key techniques such as framing, joisting, roofing, and safe work at height.

Equip learners with the technical skills and knowledge needed for employment in the construction industry.

Embed literacy, digital, and employability skills into your teaching — helping learners develop core competencies for life and work.

Use restorative practice to create a respectful, inclusive, and motivating learning environment.

Collaborate with Learning Support Practitioners to ensure all learners’ needs are met, especially those with low literacy levels.

Promote the carpentry programme across the prison, highlighting its practical benefits and real-world relevance.

Maintain accurate records, support assessment and certification processes, and uphold all health & safety standards.

What you’ll need:

A Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Site Carpentry, Construction, or a related trade.

A teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, CET) — or willingness to work towards one.

Strong working knowledge of safe site practices, including working at height.

A passion for motivating others and helping people achieve qualifications that open doors.

Experience delivering vocational training (ideally in a prison or adult education setting) or the confidence to transfer your trade skills into a training role.

Excellent communication, organisation, and adaptability.

Respect for safeguarding, equality, and a learner-centred approach.

Help change lives through education and skills development.

Join a supportive team that believes in second chances and lifelong learning.

Gain support to grow your teaching career.

Be part of a forward-thinking vocational training programme aligned with the construction industry.
