Personal Assistant
Hours: 6 hours term time, 12 hours in school holidays but the hours are flexible.
Location: Ashford, Kent
Pay: £12.21 per hour
Purpose of Job
We are looking for a friendly, caring and fun Personal Assistant to provide support to our 16-year-old son who has Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic condition which causes difficulties with learning.
He is a lovely young man with an infectious laugh and a lovely temperament but can sometimes display challenging behaviour. Ideally, we would need support in the school holidays and weekends but this is very flexible.
You will support him to enjoy activities mainly outside the home so he can become more independent. He enjoys walks in the woods, swimming, trampolining, trips to the farm, the beach, fun fairs, sensory play and bowling. You may be asked to support him alongside one of his parents.
Personal tasks
He requires help with his personal care, including dressing and toileting.
Personal Specification
Essential
- Proven experience of working with disabled children/adults sometimes with challenging behaviour.
- Good communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to work with and improve the lives of disabled children.
- Reliable
You will need to have a driving licence and access to a car (with business insurance) to use for work.
An enhanced DBS will be required for this role, this can be arranged by the employer.
