We are seeking an experienced HR Advisor / ER Advisor / Employer Relations Advisor for an initial 3‑month contract via Hays. This is a great opportunity for an experienced HR professional to play a key role in delivering a high-quality, proactive Employee Relations service, supporting managers and staff across a complex, multi-site environment. You will join a busy ER function and be responsible for managing casework, providing expert advice, and supporting the delivery of people initiatives that improve workforce experience and organisational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of employee relations issues including absence and ill-health, disciplinary and grievance, and performance and capability matters.
  • Act as a first point of contact for managers, providing advice on HR policies, employment law, and best practice.
  • Support and advise on investigations and participate in formal hearings for less complex ER cases.
  • Analyse ER data (e.g. sickness absence trends) and provide insight to support decision‑making.
  • Support organisational change activities, ensuring compliance with People policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to reporting, governance, and audit requirements.
  • Contribute to training and coaching managers, building capability and promoting best practice.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience in an Employee Relations / HR Advisory role, ideally within the public sector.
  • Strong experience managing ER casework end-to-end.
  • Solid understanding of UK employment law and HR policies.
  • Confident advising managers and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a busy caseload.
  • Available at short notice / immediately (highly desirable).
