Our client is a growing specialist utility civils contractor delivering infrastructure projects across the UK power sector. Working alongside DNOs, IDNOs, ICPs and Tier 1 contractors, they deliver utility civils, substation works, EV infrastructure, ducting, trenching, concrete structures and reinstatement works across LV to 132kV networks.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Civils Estimator to support the tendering and pre-construction function.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Directors, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for utility and power infrastructure projects, from initial enquiry through to tender submission. Typical projects include:

  • Utility civils packages
  • HV and LV cable routes
  • Substation civils
  • EV charging infrastructure
  • Ducting and trenching works
  • Concrete bases and foundations
  • Reinstatement works
  • Power and infrastructure projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation
  • Produce take-offs and Bills of Quantities
  • Build estimates from first principles
  • Obtain and assess subcontractor and supplier quotations
  • Prepare tender submissions and pricing schedules
  • Identify risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions
  • Support project handovers to delivery teams
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders throughout the tender process

What they're Looking For

  • Previous experience as an Estimator, Civils Estimator or Utilities Estimator
  • Experience pricing utility, infrastructure or civil engineering projects
  • Strong understanding of trenching, ducting, reinstatement and groundworks
  • Experience working on power, utility, EV, substation or infrastructure projects
  • NEC contract awareness
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Desirable

  • Experience working for a utility contractor, ICP, DNO contractor or civil engineering contractor
  • Knowledge of HV/LV networks and substation construction
  • Experience pricing EV infrastructure projects
