Senior Mechanical Estimator
Successful Mechanical Contractor
Surrey/Kent border (2 days hybrid working available)
About the Company:
Established in the 1980s, this well-respected, family-run business specialises exclusively in mechanical projects. With a strong turnover of £20 million and headquartered in Surrey, they deliver high-quality residential schemes ranging from £500k to £20m. Their client base includes some of the UK’s most prominent housebuilders and contractors.
Renowned for project excellence and a commitment to internal progression, many of the current senior team members began their careers here as apprentices—a true testament to the company’s culture of development and loyalty.
The Opportunity:
Due to continued growth and an increasingly diverse portfolio, the business is now looking for a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join its commercial team. You’ll be working alongside an experienced Estimator and reporting directly to the Managing Director/Commercial Director.
This is a strategic hire, offering the opportunity to shape the bid function and client experience across a wide range of mechanical projects while playing a vital role in the company’s ongoing success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage and prioritise a dynamic project tender pipeline
• Serve as a primary point of contact for current and potential clients
• Collaborate with the Commercial Director on bid strategy development
• Analyse client enquiry documents and lead detailed take-offs
• Deliver both mid and post-tender presentations to clients
• Evaluate subcontractor, plant, and equipment quotes
• Manage RFIs and post-tender clarification processes
• Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
• Assess mechanical designs from RIBA Stage 2 onward
• Support the evolution and optimisation of the supply chain network
• Produce comprehensive tender review documentation for senior leadership
What We’re Looking For:
• Solid experience in mechanical estimating within residential construction
• Broader sector experience is welcomed, but residential must be a core focus
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design and tendering processes
• Excellent communication and commercial acumen
• Familiarity with estimating software (exact platforms to be confirmed)
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
Working Pattern:
Flexible hybrid working is available – typically 3 days in the office and 2 remotely. Some team members successfully work 4 days from home, and the business is happy to accommodate arrangements that suit the right person.
Why Join?
This isn’t just another contractor – it’s a supportive, close-knit team where people are genuinely valued. With a strong emphasis on career growth, mentoring, and work-life balance, this business offers a long-term, fulfilling path for the right candidate.
