About the Company: Established in the 1980s, this well-respected, family-run business specialises exclusively in mechanical projects. With a strong turnover of £20 million and headquartered in Surrey, they deliver high-quality residential schemes ranging from £500k to £20m. Their client base includes some of the UK’s most prominent housebuilders and contractors. Renowned for project excellence and a commitment to internal progression, many of the current senior team members began their careers here as apprentices—a true testament to the company’s culture of development and loyalty. The Opportunity: Due to continued growth and an increasingly diverse portfolio, the business is now looking for a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join its commercial team. You’ll be working alongside an experienced Estimator and reporting directly to the Managing Director/Commercial Director. This is a strategic hire, offering the opportunity to shape the bid function and client experience across a wide range of mechanical projects while playing a vital role in the company’s ongoing success. Key Responsibilities: • Manage and prioritise a dynamic project tender pipeline • Serve as a primary point of contact for current and potential clients • Collaborate with the Commercial Director on bid strategy development • Analyse client enquiry documents and lead detailed take-offs • Deliver both mid and post-tender presentations to clients • Evaluate subcontractor, plant, and equipment quotes • Manage RFIs and post-tender clarification processes • Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options • Assess mechanical designs from RIBA Stage 2 onward • Support the evolution and optimisation of the supply chain network • Produce comprehensive tender review documentation for senior leadership What We’re Looking For: • Solid experience in mechanical estimating within residential construction • Broader sector experience is welcomed, but residential must be a core focus • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design and tendering processes • Excellent communication and commercial acumen • Familiarity with estimating software (exact platforms to be confirmed) • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team Working Pattern: Flexible hybrid working is available – typically 3 days in the office and 2 remotely.
