We are seeking an experienced Senior Works Manager to join a Tier 1 joint venture delivering a major multi-year infrastructure programme in the East Tilbury area. This is a key leadership role heading up the earthworks delivery for a significant early works phase that will underpin a major tunnelling programme commencing in 2028.

This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a high profile earthworks package involving large scale bulk excavation of over one million cubic metres, alongside progressive heavy civils works including bridges, culverts and piling as the programme evolves.

About the project

This is one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure programmes, delivered by a leading joint venture. Early works focus on major earthmoving, ground engineering and structures, building the platform for a future deep tunnelling phase. You will play a pivotal role in shaping safe, efficient and high quality delivery from the ground up.

The role

As Senior Works Manager, you will lead site based delivery teams and manage key subcontractors across the earthworks and early civils scope. You will be responsible for driving performance, safety, programme certainty and quality across a complex live construction environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate site teams across earthworks and heavy civils activities
  • Manage subcontractors and ensure safe, efficient and compliant delivery
  • Oversee bulk excavation operations and material management strategies
  • Support planning and sequencing of works to meet programme milestones
  • Drive health, safety, environmental and quality standards across all activities
  • Liaise closely with engineering, commercial and project leadership teams
  • Contribute to future phases including structures and tunnelling preparation works

About you

  • Proven experience as a Works Manager or Senior Works Manager with a main contractor
  • Strong background in large scale earthworks delivery on major infrastructure projects
  • Experience managing subcontractors and multi-discipline site teams
  • Solid understanding of heavy civils including structures and foundations
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • Commitment to safety, quality and collaborative delivery

What we offer

  • Competitive salary package
  • Car allowance
  • Permanent position within a major Tier 1 joint venture
  • Long term programme stability and progression opportunities
  • Opportunity to lead a flagship earthworks package on a nationally significant scheme

If you are looking for a senior leadership role where you can shape and deliver one of the largest earthworks programmes in the UK, this is an exceptional opportunity to make a lasting impact.
