A tier 1 joint venture delivering major works on HS2 is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Surveyor to support bulk earthworks, drainage, highways, and associated infrastructure works based in Watford.
Key Responsibilities
- Site surveying and setting out
- Carry out accurate setting out for earthworks, drainage, structures, and highways using Total Station and GPS
- Undertake regular surveys and checks to ensure works meet design requirements and tolerances
- Identify and resolve dimensional or setting out issues with the site team
- Provide guidance to site engineers on best practice
- 3D modelling
- Use Civil 3D or similar software to produce and update construction models
- Complete earthworks cut and fill analysis
- Generate models for machine control, GPS plant, and setting out
- Produce accurate as built records, drawings, and digital models
- GPS machine control
- Upload and validate model data to the construction plant
- Calibrate and verify machine control equipment
- Troubleshoot GPS and machine control issues on site
- Support plant operators in the correct use of digital models
Alongside these core duties, you will bring strong knowledge of earthworks and highways specifications, materials, and tolerances, supporting the delivery of bulk earthworks, formation levels, and pavement construction in line with contractual and technical standards. The role also involves contributing to inspection and test plans, undertaking quality checks, maintaining survey and handover documentation, resolving technical queries, and providing day to day support to site teams, designers, subcontractors, and suppliers. You will mentor junior engineers, assist with progress reporting through survey and measurement data, and ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental requirements while promoting safe working practices across site.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior Surveyor on major infrastructure, earthworks, or highways projects
- Strong capability in GPS machine control and Civil 3D or similar software
- Experience working within a tier 1 project environment is highly desirable
