Shropshire Towns and Rural (STAR) Housing are an arms-length organisation managing homes on behalf of Shropshire Council. We are committed to creating quality homes and vibrant communities by listening to our residents and delivering excellent housing services.
Help us make informed investment decisions and deliver better homes
We are looking for an experienced and practically minded Condition Surveyorto help us understand the condition of our homes, plan future investment and deliver high-quality property improvement projects.
This is a varied role combining technical surveying, asset information and project delivery. Your initial priority will be our condition-led roofing programme, where you will assess roof condition, recommend the right intervention and oversee contractors through to completion. However, this is not a roofing-only position. You will also lead or support planned maintenance, component replacement, property improvement and asset-data projects as our priorities develop.
What makes this role rewarding is the chance to see your judgement put into practice. You will not simply identify what needs attention and move on. You will help determine the right course of action, work with others to deliver it, and see the difference that well-planned, well-executed work makes to residentsβ homes.
You will have the opportunity to work across a range of properties and projects, using your knowledge of building construction and defects to make balanced recommendations based on condition, risk and value for money. Alongside surveying, you will work with residents, colleagues and contractors to keep projects moving and ensure completed work meets the quality expected.
About you
You may have built your experience in property surveying, construction, planned maintenance or building refurbishment. You will bring strong practical knowledge of roofing systems and common defects, experience of working with contractors, and the confidence to recognise when work needs to be improved. You will be organised, comfortable managing several priorities and able to communicate your findings clearly.
A relevant Level 3 trade, vocational or technical qualification or equivalent relevant practical experience is required. Experience in social housing, stock condition surveying or planned investment would be welcome, but is not essential. You will also need a valid driving licence and the ability to travel regularly between properties and project sites.
If you enjoy combining time on site with the opportunity to shape decisions and follow projects through to completion, we would like to hear from you.
Join us in making a difference in our communities by providing essential housing services and ensuring the safety and comfort of our tenants.
