Build the Devices that Protect National Missions

Our mission is simple but critical: protect those who protect us.

This is one role, open at either of two grades. Which one applies depends on what you bring, and we would rather decide that once we have met you than screen good people out in advance.

You will take on stewardship of our cryptographic device portfolio – the hardware at the heart of how government and national security customers protect their most sensitive communications. It includes both enterprise-grade and small form factor crypto devices, together with the key management and other related systems that support them. These products form the backbone of our secure mobility solutions, integrating into our gateways and into customer mission environments.

You will report directly to our Chief Engineering and Products Officer, who leads our most senior customer relationships in this domain. Building your own standing with those customers is part of this role rather than a prerequisite for it – in this domain credibility is earned rather than imported, so you will be representing our products alongside someone who already has it, with the clear intention that you take an increasing share of that over time.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the product-level vision, strategy, roadmap and business value for our cryptographic device portfolio.
• Lead discovery with customers, users, security authorities and internal cryptography specialists to validate mission needs, threat models and operational constraints.
• Map evaluation and certification pathways into the roadmap, sequencing features and artefact creation to hit approval gates.
• Work with technical leads, project managers, suppliers and evaluation labs to align hardware, firmware, security and certification activity.
• Own the commercial position – intellectual property, licensing, exportability, support model, spares and through-life cost – ensuring supply chain security and manufacturing considerations are planned and costed.
• Partner with other Product Managers so that device capabilities integrate cleanly into our gateways and end-user applications/devices.
• Track the measures that matter – evaluation progress, technical performance, field reliability – and iterate with evidence.
• Mentor less experienced product colleagues and help mature product practice across the business.

in addition at Principal grade:

• Hold the commercial performance of a wider product family – pricing posture, margin, and the investment cases that secure funding.
• Initiate new products and services, taking opportunities from hypothesis through to funded proposition.
• Set the prioritisation framework across the family and arbitrate when products compete for the same engineering capacity.
• Plan assurance and evaluation strategy across several products at once, including where approvals can be reused or shared.
• Work across our UK and Australian teams, and take on line management of product managers as the function grows.

About you

You will bring real depth in the development of multi-disciplinary products, ideally those with a cryptographic or strong security focus, along with a working understanding of what formal security evaluation demands. You thrive in complexity and enjoy working at the intersection of technology, security and product delivery.

You will be high agency and high empathy, with a strongly collaborative and facilitative approach – able to build alignment and drive progress across teams over which you hold influence rather than direct authority.

We are looking for genuine product ownership experience alongside credible technical depth in secure hardware or cryptography. We know that combination is rare; if you are strong in one and credible in the other, we would still like to hear from you.

We’d love to hear from you if you have some of these:

• Experience owning one or more products through the full lifecycle, in a complex and/or regulated technical environment. For the Principal grade, experience owning a portfolio or product family rather than individual products.
• Depth in cryptography, secure hardware or secure embedded systems development.
• Exposure to formal security evaluation schemes – for example FIPS 140-3, Common Criteria, NCSC CAPS or equivalent national or NATO schemes – and the artefacts and timescales they demand.
• Familiarity with concepts such as key management, secure elements and HSMs, secure boot and chain of trust.
• A track record of connecting customer needs, commercial drivers and technical constraints into a clear product strategy.
• Confidence engaging with senior engineers one moment and government customers the next.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Own a product set that sits at the heart of how national security customers protect their most sensitive communications.
• Deliver on an ambitious roadmap, with new products landing in the next 12–24 months.
• Help shape a growing product function, its operating model and its ways of working.
• Collaborate with world-class cryptographers, engineers and security experts.

Crypto devices is where we need you now. As our product organisation grows there is real scope to broaden your remit or move across the portfolio – we grade and develop our product managers by capability, not by specific product line.

• We offer hybrid working, with a typical split of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote, subject to individual project requirements.

Qualifications & Eligibility

To be eligible for this position you must:

• Have substantial experience in Product Management, ideally in a secure environment; and,
• Be a British citizen; and
• Hold, or be eligible for UK National Security Vetting (NSV) - DV level clearance
