My client in the iGaming industry is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to work hybrid from Newcastle, UK (Min 1 day in the office, 4 days remote).
Role Overview
We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to build and scale core platform services in a distributed, event-driven environment. The role focuses on designing reliable, high-performance systems, including Geospatial skills, like geospatial APIs, geotools, location APIs, Geo Coding services, etc., to detect where the different players are coming from. You will ensure system resilience, data integrity, and observability while contributing to testing, security, and CI/CD practices.
Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience with Java, 5+ of experience with Spring, Springboot and Microservices
- Proven ability to design and lead backend architectures for complex systems.
- Solid experience with Cloud (AWS) and Kubernetes.
- 2+ years of experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership by defining backend architecture and ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Establish coding standards, promote secure development practices (e.g., OWASP), and guide technology/tool selection.
- Lead projects and communicate technical risks clearly to non-technical stakeholders while balancing business needs and system reliability.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, build processes, and operational workflows for better efficiency and delivery.
- Contribute hands-on to critical backend systems, reviewing code and ensuring alignment with best practices and architecture.
- Mentor and coach engineers, facilitating collaboration, design discussions, and code reviews across teams.
- Drive continuous improvement by addressing technical debt and introducing modern technologies and practices.
