Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial & Regulatory
Location: Redhill / Hybrid

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a growing, consumer-focused business based in Redhill.
This is a broad, high-impact in-house position offering the opportunity to become a key legal adviser to the business and work closely with senior leadership and stakeholders across multiple functions.
The successful candidate will provide commercially focused legal advice across a diverse range of matters, including commercial contracts, consumer and marketing law, intellectual property, regulatory issues, product development, disputes and data protection.
This role would suit a commercially minded solicitor who enjoys operating in a fast-paced environment and wants genuine ownership, autonomy and exposure to senior decision-makers.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted legal adviser to senior management and key business stakeholders.
- Provide practical advice on commercial, regulatory and operational legal matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including supplier, technology, SaaS, partnership, marketing and licensing contracts.
- Advise on contractual risk, including liability, indemnities, termination, intellectual property, data protection and service levels.
- Own and maintain customer-facing Terms & Conditions, promotional terms, policies and other legal documentation.
- Advise on consumer protection, advertising and promotional requirements.
- Review marketing campaigns, customer communications, website content and promotional activity from a legal perspective.
- Provide legal input into new products, services, technology and business initiatives, applying a legal-by-design approach.
- Advise on intellectual property matters, including trade marks, licensing, brand protection and potential infringements.
- Manage disputes, threatened claims and pre-action matters, instructing external counsel where appropriate.
- Provide legal support on complex UK GDPR and privacy matters.
- Identify material legal risks and work with relevant stakeholders to ensure appropriate mitigation.
- Instruct and manage external legal advisers where specialist expertise is required.
- Provide legal training and guidance to teams across the organisation.
- Help develop efficient processes for managing legal risk and reducing unnecessary reliance on external counsel.
About You
You will be an England & Wales qualified solicitor with approximately 5–8+ years PQE, ideally with a strong commercial and in-house background.
- Strong commercial contracts experience.
- Previous in-house experience, ideally within a consumer-facing, digital or regulated environment.
- Experience advising on consumer law and marketing/advertising requirements.
- Good knowledge of intellectual property and data protection.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused advice.
- Confidence working independently and managing a varied legal workload.
- The ability to engage effectively with senior management and non-legal stakeholders.
- Experience within promotional activity, competitions, gaming, lotteries or similarly regulated consumer sectors would be advantageous, but is not essential.
