Key Responsibilities
- Take day-to-day ownership of compliance and KYC framework across sportsbook and casino, ensuring continued alignment with UK Gambling Commission requirements, the LCCP and relevant UK legislation and guidance.
- Review, develop and implement compliance policies, procedures and controls, with the autonomy to recommend and direct changes where required.
- Oversee KYC, customer risk assessments, CDD, EDD, Source of Funds and Source of Wealth processes.
- Provide senior oversight and guidance on complex, unusual or higher-risk customer cases and ensure appropriate escalation and record keeping.
- Maintain appropriate AML and financial crime controls and support the management of financial crime risk across the business.
- Oversee and develop Safer Gambling policies and procedures, including customer interaction, monitoring, escalation and account restriction processes.
- Act as a senior internal point of contact for regulatory and compliance matters.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with the UK Gambling Commission, responding to regulatory enquiries and information requests where required.
- Take responsibility for preparing for six-monthly regulatory reports/submissions to the Gambling Commission, working with the CEO and Compliance Consultant to ensure information is accurate, complete and submitted on time.
- Monitor changes to UK gambling regulation and guidance and translate these into practical changes to policies, procedures and operations.
- Ensure compliance decisions, customer reviews and regulatory processes are appropriately documented and auditable.
- Support regulatory assessments, audits and information requests.
- Work closely with operational, product, payments and customer-facing teams to ensure compliance requirements are embedded into day-to-day operations.
- Deliver and/or oversee appropriate compliance, AML, KYC and Safer Gambling training.
- Help develop compliance capability, systems and team structure as the business scales.
Experience & Requirements
- Significant compliance and KYC experience within a UK-regulated online gambling operator, with direct experience across both sportsbook and online casino.
- A current or appropriate Personal Management Licence (PML) and experience operating in a senior regulated role.
- Strong first-hand experience dealing with the UK Gambling Commission.
- Detailed working knowledge of the LCCP, UKGC requirements and the wider UK gambling regulatory framework.
- Strong practical experience across KYC, AML, CDD, EDD, Source of Funds and Source of Wealth.
- A strong understanding of Safer Gambling and customer interaction requirements across both sportsbook and casino customers.
- Experience handling and making decisions on complex or higher-risk customer cases.
- Experience preparing regulatory reporting and documentation for the Gambling Commission.
- Strong written skills and the ability to draft clear, commercially workable policies, procedures, risk assessments and regulatory documentation.
- The confidence and judgement to operate independently and advise or challenge senior management where necessary.
- The ability to work effectively in a start-up environment, where processes are evolving and the role will combine strategic responsibility with hands-on delivery.
Previous experience helping to establish or significantly develop the compliance function of a new or growing gambling operator would be particularly valuable.
This is an opportunity to join a great business at an early stage and have genuine influence over how the business approaches compliance.
Rather than stepping into a large established compliance department, you will have the autonomy to help build the function, shape policy and procedures and work directly with senior leadership.
As the business grows, there is significant scope for the role and compliance function to grow with it.
