Pentagon Technical Services is seeking an experienced, driven and commercially astute MEP Commercial Manager to join our team delivering a major hyperscale data centre project in London.

This is a senior project-based commercial role requiring someone with genuine MEP and mission-critical experience.

We are looking for an individual who understands the complexities of delivering large-scale mechanical and electrical packages and can take commercial ownership from procurement and subcontract award through construction, commissioning and final account.

The successful candidate will be highly experienced but still hungry, ambitious and eager to make an impact.

We want someone who gets involved in the detail, understands what is happening on site and works closely with the engineering, construction and commissioning teams rather than managing the project solely through spreadsheets and reports.

This role would particularly suit someone who has developed through an MEP contractor or specialist subcontractor environment and has progressed from Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor into Commercial Management on major data centre or mission-critical projects.

Key Responsibilities

Working as part of Pentagon's project leadership team, you will be responsible for the commercial management of significant MEP works packages on a hyperscale data centre development.

You will

  • Take commercial ownership of major MEP packages from procurement through installation, commissioning, handover and final account.
  • Lead subcontract procurement, tender analysis, commercial negotiations and contract awards.
  • Manage subcontractors and specialist supply-chain partners throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts, cash-flow projections and cost-to-complete assessments.
  • Maintain rigorous change-control processes and ensure variations are identified, substantiated and commercially recovered.
  • Identify and manage commercial and contractual risk and opportunity.
  • Prepare, assess and negotiate variations, claims and final accounts.
  • Ensure contractual notices, records and commercial correspondence are issued correctly and within required timescales.
  • Work closely with the Project Director, construction, engineering, design and commissioning teams to understand programme and technical issues and their commercial implications.
  • Provide commercial input into programme decisions, procurement strategy and package sequencing.
  • Challenge cost and identify value-engineering opportunities without compromising quality, resilience, programme or technical performance.
  • Manage and develop Quantity Surveyors and other members of the project commercial team.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the client, consultants, subcontractors and supply-chain partners.
  • Provide clear and accurate commercial reporting to Pentagon's senior management.
  • Drive packages through to timely commercial close-out and final account.
