Due to the planned retirement of David Peel, Motus Group (UK) is commencing recruitment for the role of Managing Director for Pentagon Motor Group. Reporting to Rob Truscott, Chief Executive Officer of Motus in the UK, the role will be based at Pentagon’s Head Office in Derby.

Pentagon Motor Group was established in March 1991 with just one Vauxhall dealership in Derby. Today, the business operates 50 franchise outlets for 17 major brands, from 30 sites across the East & West Midlands, Flintshire, North West, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, South Lanarkshire plus a large corporate fleet supply and logistics operation just outside Derby. The group was acquired in 2017 by Motus UK (then Imperial).

The Managing Director for Pentagon, who is also a member of the Motus UK Executive Board, has a team of directors reporting in, with 4 Brand Directors who are responsible for a portfolio of Brands each, and functional directors.

The Position

Visionary leadership for the Pentagon Motor Group division’s passenger car and LCV business operations, and to lead the development and implementation of the ongoing growth strategy in accordance with Motus & our brand partners’ strategic objectives.

  • Visionary leadership and to develop, communicate and implement a clear strategy for profitable growth across a dynamic multi franchise and location business.
  • Responsibility for achieving and exceeding Motus & brand partners KPI’s and associated targets.
  • Leadership and direction of the senior management team across the business.
  • Leadership, direction and maintenance of the Motus UK Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, business goals, legal and other obligations.
  • Full responsibility for financial performance, P&L and ROIC.
  • Full responsibility for achievement of and compliance with all brand franchise standards.
  • Achievement of excellent customer service levels in accordance with Motus and brand aspirations.
  • Attract, retain and develop great people in order that each operation is properly resourced in accordance with strategic objectives.
  • To develop strategic, long-term alliances with customers, suppliers and business partners.
  • To develop and implement successful marketing strategies.
  • In conjunction with business partners develop opportunities for the business to enter new markets and territories.
  • Develop a robust method of continuous improvement, able to motivate and empower all teams.

  • Industry knowledge, wide-ranging experience and demonstrable success in developing senior level relationships in the Automotive Retail Industry.
  • Ability and confidence to maintain robust relationships and senior level interaction with brand partners and other stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of wider competitor activity and industry knowledge.
  • Understanding of the legal requirements and obligations of automotive retail businesses.
  • Understanding of the legal obligations of executive board directors.
  • High level of negotiating skills, analytical and sound commercial acumen.
  • Familiar with industry budget and planning processes and sound financial understanding.
  • Senior level leadership experience.
  • Values driven with a hands-on approach and a track record of success.
