Lead Mechanical / Piping Engineer – London (Hybrid) - 12 month contract. Rate: Negotiable £45 hourly rate depending on experience. Must have UK LTD Company and company insurances to apply. Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the oil and gas field.
  • Ideally 5 years minimum in a consulting background.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or demonstrable that you are working towards it.
  • Construction and site based experience an added advantage.
  • Performance of pipe stress analysis an added advantage.
  • Ideally G17 approved.

Knowledge / Experience (Skills)

  • Exposure to the EPC sector of oil and gas industry including refining and gas processing plant.
  • Experience in FEED design (Mandatory) and detailed design (desirable).
  • Experience in hydrogen and ammonia projects is desirable.
  • Engineering design knowledge of piping systems in various facilities including pump stations, compressor stations, metering and regulating station, tank farms, marine terminals, and onshore processing facilities.
  • Experience in both greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Capable of producing key piping deliverables (material specifications, pipe classes, datasheets, design reports, etc.).
  • Capable of performing site surveys and developing functioning solutions for brownfield piping modifications as per client requirements.
  • Familiar with piping materials and valves, including material selection, fluid systems and corrosion, and design optimisation for integrity.
  • Competent in performing static pipe stress analysis and dynamic analysis experience.
  • Experienced in contributing to and/or leading layout related tasks including plot plan reviews and 30-60-90 percent model reviews.
  • Capable of reviewing piping drawing documentation (plot plans, general arrangements, isometrics, etc.), ability to utilise 2D and 3D CAD packages an added advantage.
  • Experience static pressure equipment engineering and rotating equipment would be an advantage.

Main Purpose Of The Role

Act as mechanical and piping team leader for planning and coordination of overall technical design and engineering, ensuring timely and quality delivery of project work. Responsible for assignments of complex nature requiring comprehensive knowledge and skills. Advise on technical problems and supervision, and may plan, schedule and review work of professional engineers and technicians. Can, independently, carry out advanced engineering studies.

Responsibilities

  • This role will involve interacting with clients on technical aspects.
  • Experience in FEED design is mandatory while experience in detail design is highly desirable.
  • Experience in energy transition projects would be beneficial.
  • Location: London (2 to 3 days a week in the office).

Technical

  • Lead projects for execution of mechanical and piping engineering providing technical leadership and guidance to Engineering Team / Design Team / CAD staff.
  • Develop full scope of project including FEED, detail design, procurement, installation inspection, testing and commissioning.
  • Experienced in the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards, and relevant sections of statutory documentation.
  • Highly experienced in use of design and assessment methods used within discipline.
  • Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting.
  • Competent in commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering.
  • Experienced in controlling all aspects of discipline design including some multi-discipline aspects.
  • Highly experienced in quality control / safety / environmental methods and QA / safety / environmental procedures for engineering.
  • Highly experienced in producing man-hour and material estimates for all discipline activities.
  • Experienced / competent in leading, supervising and the organisation of a medium / large sized single discipline team.
  • Production of documents including calculations, stress assessment, reports, studies, specifications, and datasheets.
  • Review of drawings, including P&IDs, plot plans, general arrangements, isometrics, support layouts, etc.
  • Procurement support for technical requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor data review, material and equipment inspections, etc.
  • Site visits, survey, and the preparation of site visit reports.

Generic

  • Mentoring and developing less experienced engineers.
  • Oversee project deliverables.
  • Liaise with clients on a technical level to ensure their needs are being met and ensuring they are aware of data input requirements to allow projects to proceed on schedule.
  • Provide technical input to bids and proposals.
  • Maintain awareness of project CTRs and activity hours.
  • Highlight any potential project time overrun to the Project Manager.
  • Work to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the design process.

Software Knowledge

  • Pipe Stress Analysis (Hexagon Caesar II and/or Bentley AutoPIPE).
  • CAD Design Software (Autodesk AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant3D, etc.).
  • 3D Model Review Software (Navisworks, etc.).
  • PTC MathCAD.
  • Microsoft Office.
