Principal Pipeline Engineer

Location: UK Remote

Contract: 9/12 months, flexible on Ltd Company Rate

Penspen ( ) is seeking to hire a contractor at Principal Pipeline Engineer or Senior Pipeline Engineer level for their next contract.

Main Purpose of Role:

Assist with planning and coordination of technical design and engineering implementation of project work. Responsible for complex assignments requiring comprehensive knowledge. Plan, organize, and carry out engineering efforts, including exploring new techniques. Independently conduct advanced engineering studies.

Responsibilities:

Technical

  • Interpret and apply industry standards and codes (ASME B31.4/B31.8, BS PD 8010, IGEM/TD/1, API 5L, API 6D).
  • Apply design, fabrication, and construction methods, including pipeline material selection, wall thickness, valve specifications, pigging facilities, etc.
  • Produce complex deliverables such as scope descriptions, study reports, design criteria, stress analysis models, hazard analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Review pipeline drawings for compliance with design basis and codes, including route maps, crossing drawings, and construction drawings.
  • Be familiar with pipeline routing software (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Coordinate constructability and design reviews of 3D models.
  • Undertake vendor reviews, bid evaluations, and participate in vendor meetings, assisting in contracting strategies.
  • Interface with other discipline staff as required.
  • Ensure work complies with Penspen Group ISO standards and environmental, health, and safety procedures.

Generic

  • Supervise design work to meet statutory, company, client, and project requirements.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks for self and team for efficiency.
  • Coordinate across geographic areas and with third-party design centers.
  • Monitor project CTRs and time spent on deliverables.
  • Improve design process efficiency and provide consultation.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and regulators.
  • Promote Penspen design standards and practices.
  • Liaise with clients to meet technical needs.
  • Assist in proposal preparation with technical input.
  • Provide guidance on feasibility, FEED, detailed design, and EPC projects.
  • Understand contract requirements, including Cost Reimbursable and Lump Sum contracts.
  • Familiarity with procurement and vendor review processes.
  • Visit sites and offices to facilitate design and resolve issues.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers.
