The Role

We are seeking a warm, resilient, and proactive SEND Teaching Assistant to join our energetic Year 2 team.

In this role, you will work closely with the Year 2 class teachers and our SENCo to provide targeted, adaptable support for a small group of pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Rather than 1-to-1 support for a single pupil, you will work flexibly across the year group to empower several children—helping them access the curriculum, build independence, and flourish social-emotionally.

The position is for 30 hours per week, fixed term until 31st August 2027, term time plus 2 INSET days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Targeted Support: Deliver tailored individual and small-group interventions in literacy, numeracy, and social communication skills.
  • Adaptive Learning: Work alongside class teachers to adapt learning materials, visual aids, and sensory toolkits to meet varied pupil needs.
  • Emotional & Social Wellbeing: Help children develop emotional regulation, peer relationships, and classroom confidence using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Progress Tracking: Keep clear, concise notes on individual pupil progress to share with teachers, the SENCo, and parents/carers.
  • Inclusive Environment: Promote an inclusive, encouraging classroom culture where every child feels valued and supported.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have

  • SEND Experience: Previous experience supporting children with diverse SEND requirements (e. g., Autism, Speech & Language needs, ADHD, or SEMH).
  • Year 2 / KS1 Familiarity: An understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum and the developmental needs of 6- to 7-year-olds (desirable, but passion and adaptability matter most!).
  • Patience & Empathy: A calm, resilient demeanour and a genuine passion for unlocking potential in every child.
  • Team Spirit: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
