We’re looking for a Laboratory Scientist - Microbiology to join our laboratory services team in Exeter. In this role you’ll play a vital part in analysing water samples, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance, and helping us deliver safe, reliable water services.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out microbiological analysis of water samples using approved laboratory methods.
  • Ensuring laboratory work meets ISO17025 and regulatory quality standards.
  • Maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Performing instrument calibration and maintenance to ensure reliable results.
  • Interpreting analytical results and reporting findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting investigations into non-conforming results and contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Assisting with method development, projects and training of colleagues where required.
  • Planning and managing your daily workload to support efficient laboratory operations.
  • Participating in an out-of-hours standby rota to support emergency analysis.

What We’re Looking For

  • A qualification in a relevant scientific discipline (Biology or similar).
  • A minimum of A-Level or equivalent in a Biology subject; higher qualifications such as HNC or a degree are desirable.
  • Ideally experience of working in a laboratory environment within ISO17025 or similar quality systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confident communication skills to explain results and collaborate with colleagues.
  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
