Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Costs Lawyer/Draftsperson to join our friendly and dynamic costs team. The ideal candidate will have experience of all aspects of both inter parties costs and solicitor/client costs work. They will work well in a team environment, and will ideally demonstrate an ability to streamline processes and monitor outcomes and performance as well as advise and guide a fee earning team on costs issues. It would be preferable if the candidate is already a qualified Costs Lawyer but not essential with at least 4 years PQE.

The appointed Costs Lawyer/Draftsperson will demonstrate a genuinely commercial approach, focussed on obtaining the best possible result for the team/business. They must also be confident to deal with external providers and ensure a suitable level of service is provided.

Essential & Desirable Criteria

  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Costs Manager and other costs lawyers as well as the fee earning teams
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to prioritise workload and competing demands across a big team to maximise speed of cashflow
  • Ability to provide thorough and reasoned advice on all aspects of costs
  • High quality of drafting
  • Experience in paying party work
  • Ability to provide detailed analysis
  • Structured approach to work with an ability to have and adhere to a fixed timetable in all costs cases and take steps as needed to comply with the same
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent costs negotiation skills
  • Excellent technical and legal knowledge on costs law
  • Knowledge of Arbitration/International Arbitration rules and procedures
  • Focus on keeping up to date with recent developments
  • Professional approach to external providers and third parties

This role requires at least 3 days a week in the office.
