Confident Small Animal Vet – Tonbridge
Build your own following. Practise great medicine. Be part of something genuinely different.
Hey there, If you’re a confident small animal vet who enjoys variety, values relationships, and likes the idea of building your own client following, this could be your role!
At Pennard Vets, we don’t believe great veterinary care is only about clinical skill. It’s about trust, communication, and creating a place where clients feel comfortable coming back again and again. We’re employee‑owned, proudly independent, and serious about doing things in a more human, sustainable way.
This role is ideal for an all‑rounder who enjoys first‑opinion work and wants the freedom to practise medicine with autonomy, backed by a supportive leadership team and modern facilities. The salary for this role is £45,000–£60,000, depending on experience, alongside a working pattern designed to support life outside of practice too.
What your days might look like
You’ll be doing proper first‑opinion small animal work, seeing a varied caseload and building continuity with clients who get to know you and trust you.
- Loyal clients – our PHC has included unlimited consults for seven years
- The space to build your own style and client base
- Support from experienced colleagues when you want another brain on a case
- A leadership team that values creativity and curiosity over box‑ticking
- All the toys you’d expect (ultrasound, dental x-rays, lap‑spay kit…) and our own OOH/hybrid referral hospital just a short drive up the road
We care a lot about how care feels, not just how it’s delivered. That means calm, honest conversations, clear options, and consultations that don’t feel rushed or transactional.
A bit about how we work
We’re intentionally moving away from the “conveyor belt” model of veterinary practice.
That means:
- A 4‑day working week, with protected admin time
- The option to work a full Saturday instead of a weekday or work part time if that suits your life better
- Certificates actively supported if you want to develop a special interest
- We’re also exploring better ways of supporting clients outside the consult room. You don’t need to be a tech enthusiast, but you do need to be open to learning with us.
You’ll probably enjoy this role if you
- Are a confident small animal vet comfortable with first‑opinion medicine and surgery
- Enjoy building long‑term client relationships
- Like the idea of having autonomy, but not being on your own
- Care about communication and client experience as much as clinical outcomes
- Want to work somewhere that feels human, supportive, and forward‑thinking
Why Pennard Vets?
- Employee‑owned and values‑led
- A leadership team that listens and welcomes ideas
- A genuine focus on sustainability, not burnout
- Space to grow, shape your role, and do work you’re proud of
- A practice that wants to feel like more than just a clinic
Feeling that quiet “this sounds like me” nudge?
We’d love to hear from you. Send your CV and a short note about what you enjoy in practice and what you’re looking for next to careers@pennardvets.com. No need for anything overly formal, just get in touch!
