Head of Campaigns (Marketing), Richard Osman – Penguin General
Are you a curious, creative and collaborative marketing specialist? Are you passionate about new media and reaching new audiences? Would you like to work on the biggest author brand in publishing?
We are looking to appoint a Head of Campaigns (Marketing), responsible for delivering the marketing and audience strategy for Richard Osman, Penguin General’s record-breaking, bestselling author.
The role
This role will manage and execute year-round activity alongside blockbuster frontlist campaigns, constantly exploring opportunities to engage readers and reach new audiences. You will be a central part of the Osman publishing team, a key contact for stakeholders and internal/external teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver ambitious frontlist campaigns with input from stakeholders and other departments including editorial, sales and publicity. Oversee all aspects of campaign work from briefing agency and digital ads to copywriting, creative and retailer materials.
- Plan and deliver year-round marketing activity across the Osman publishing catalogue to drive sales and discover new readers.
- Be a key point of contact for author and agent, communicating plans, sharing updates, getting approvals and responding to requests efficiently.
- Line management of one direct report including regular catch ups and setting SMART goals.
- Examine other areas with report regularly including workload, work/life balance, purpose, recognition, enjoyment and development.
- Produce and dispatch extensive retailer material for frontlist campaigns, from FSDUs to digital assets. Producing bespoke retailer presentations & conference material on the brand.
- Manage Osman activity from our owned channels, including the newsletter, website and social. Set growth targets each year and explore new platforms where relevant.
- Managing the relationship and lead communications with involved third parties including the US publisher.
- Use data and consumer insight to help inform audience strategy.
- Work closely with the core Osman team to set the audience strategy each year and longer-term.
- Be a key member of the senior comms team, helping feed into department strategy and contributing to team development.
What you’ll bring:
- Five years plus experience leading successful, high-priority consumer campaigns.
- Significant proven experience of best-in-class and high-priority consumer campaigns within publishing or another relevant creative industry, such as film & TV.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Fascination, curiosity and excellent knowledge of new media, audience trends and different ways we can use it to promote books.
- Strong project management skills, organised and able to deliver activity to deadline.
Preferred criteria:
- Ability to build strong relationships with external and internal colleagues and stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to campaign work, with the ability to flex between reactive marketing and longer-term planning.
- Confident decision maker, able to effectively collaborate within a team and work independently.
- Creative with an eye for sophisticated, impactful design and extensive experience briefing assets across various marketing channels, from video to audio.
- Actively sharing analysis, best practices and examples of exemplary work from other industries.
- Innovative and data-driven in how you approach your campaigns.
- A team player, often collaborating and supporting colleagues beyond role remit.

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will work from our London office in Embassy Gardens, attending key meetings and working as part of the team usually three days per week, with remote working on the other days. We are open to discussing the exact balance of office to remote working through the recruitment process.
