We are proud to be representing a specialist engineering contractor operating within the water and wastewater sector. Due to continued growth, they are looking to hire an experienced Fabricator / Welder to join their established workshop team in Bedford.

The position of Fabricator / Welder offers excellent opportunities for career progression and involvement in a wide range of technically challenging projects. Working within a skilled fabrication team, you will manufacture pipework, tanks, structural steelwork and bespoke process equipment used across major water and wastewater treatment projects throughout the UK.

Requirements for the role of Fabricator / Welder:

  • City & Guilds, NVQ or Apprenticeship in Fabrication, Welding or Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven experience in fabrication and welding within an industrial environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and isometric drawings
  • Experience working with pipework systems and fabrication standards
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical ability
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workloads effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements within a fabrication workshop
  • Experience working within an ISO9001 quality environment would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of BS EN 1090 (CE Marking) would be beneficial

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and weld stainless steel and carbon steel pipework ranging from ¼" to 24"
  • Carry out purge welding and fabrication of process and wastewater pipework systems
  • Manufacture pipe spools, manifolds and bespoke fabricated assemblies
  • Fabricate tanks, splitter chambers, inlet structures, air grids, sieves, frameworks and associated steelwork
  • Assemble large structures using overhead crane facilities where required
  • Work from engineering drawings and fabrication specifications to produce high-quality finished products
  • Carry out quality inspections during both fabrication and final assembly stages
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the workshop and fabrication facility
  • Assist with organisation and storage of materials for ongoing projects
  • Conduct routine checks on workshop equipment, lifting gear and tools
  • Ensure lifting equipment is available for LOLER inspections and tools for PAT testing
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the workshop and yard
  • Promote and follow safe working practices at all times
  • Ensure LEV extraction systems are used during welding activities
  • Work closely with Workshop Team Leaders and Site Teams to meet production targets and project deadlines
  • Provide feedback and progress updates on ongoing fabrication projects

The successful candidate will be a motivated and reliable individual with a proactive approach, capable of maintaining high standards of workmanship while contributing positively to a collaborative workshop environment.
