Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a respected independent planning consultancy in their search for a Senior Town Planner to join their team in Wallingford. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Town Planner to join a growing consultancy working across a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use, and strategic land projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in project delivery, client management, and planning strategy while benefiting from a collaborative and supportive working environment.
THE ROLE
As a Senior Town Planner, you will lead planning projects from initial site appraisal through to planning application submission, negotiation, and determination. You will work closely with a broad range of private sector clients, providing strategic planning advice and helping to secure successful outcomes across a variety of development schemes. The role offers excellent project responsibility and the opportunity to further develop your career as a Senior Town Planner within a respected consultancy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading and managing planning applications and appeals
- Preparing and reviewing planning statements, appraisal reports, and supporting documentation
- Undertaking site assessments and development feasibility studies
- Providing strategic planning advice to clients across a range of sectors
- Managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact
- Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, consultees, and stakeholders
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members
- Attending client meetings, site visits, and planning consultations
- Contributing to business development and networking activities
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline
- MRTPI qualified or working towards Chartership
- Strong experience within a planning consultancy, developer, or local authority environment
- Excellent understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy
- Strong communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills
- Proven ability to manage projects and deadlines effectively
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
