Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a respected rural property and planning consultancy in their search for a Rural Town Planner to join their team in Taunton. This is an exciting opportunity for a Rural Town Planner to join a growing consultancy working across a varied portfolio of rural, residential, agricultural, and estate development projects. The successful candidate will benefit from strong client exposure and the opportunity to work on a broad range of planning matters within a supportive and collaborative environment.
THE ROLE
As a Rural Town Planner, you will be involved in delivering planning projects from initial appraisal through to submission and determination, with a particular focus on rural and countryside developments. You will work closely with landowners, rural businesses, and private clients, providing planning advice across a wide variety of schemes while continuing to build your expertise as a Rural Town Planner within a respected consultancy environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing planning applications and appeals for rural and countryside developments
- Preparing high-quality planning reports and supporting documentation
- Undertaking site appraisals and feasibility assessments
- Advising on agricultural, rural diversification, and estate projects
- Liaising with Local Planning Authorities and key stakeholders
- Attending client meetings, consultations, and site visits
- Supporting wider project delivery across rural and residential schemes
- Contributing to business development and client relationship management
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline
- MRTPI qualified or working towards Chartership
- Experience within a planning consultancy or rural property environment
- Interest or experience in rural and agricultural planning matters
- Strong understanding of the UK planning system
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational and client-facing abilities
- A proactive and commercially aware approach
