An established, award-winning, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Principal Engineer to join its existing structural engineering teams in Higham Ferrers or Peterborough. The successful candidate will work with a range of major international clients across sectors including automotive, commercial, industrial, retail, education and residential, providing high-quality structural engineering solutions from concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the main client contact for structural engineering projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Undertake detailed structural analysis and design in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
- Oversee departmental workload, resource planning, budgets and financial performance, ensuring efficient project delivery and protection of margins.
- Mentor and support engineers and technical staff, encouraging a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, providing expert structural engineering advice and solutions.
- Review and approve engineering designs, specifications and reports to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Keep up to date with industry developments, technologies and best practice, incorporating these into project delivery where appropriate.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure effective project coordination and delivery.
- Oversee site visits, inspections and responses to contractor queries during construction.
Essential Criteria:
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Structural Engineers.
- 10-15 years' post-graduate experience, with relevant experience across industrial, residential and/or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex engineering projects.
- Strong technical capability in the conceptual and detailed design of structures using concrete, steel, masonry and timber.
- Experience managing projects through all stages, from concept and design through to completion and coordination.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, together with experience using Eurocodes, finite element analysis and structural design software such as TEKLA and TEDDS.
- Strong commercial understanding, including fee proposals, margins, bids and resource planning.
- Excellent communication, report-writing and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
