An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CAD Layout Designer to join a busy and expanding residential team near Reading. This role would suit a skilled designer with a strong background in producing residential layouts, site plans and masterplans, who is looking to join a collaborative team working across a variety of new-build housing and apartment developments. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate and well-considered layouts from initial concepts through to planning submission, working closely with planning and technical professionals throughout the process. You will play a key role in creating practical and visually strong residential schemes, ensuring designs meet planning requirements, project specifications and deadlines.

The Role:

  • Prepare detailed site layouts and residential drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Develop masterplans and housing layouts for new-build residential developments.
  • Produce floor plans, elevations and presentation drawings for houses and apartment schemes.
  • Assist with the development of layouts from initial concepts through to planning submission.
  • Revise and update drawings in response to planning, design and client feedback.
  • Ensure layouts comply with relevant planning requirements, Building Regulations and industry standards.
  • Work closely with planning and technical teams to develop practical and deliverable residential layouts.
  • Provide CAD and layout design expertise across multiple live projects.
  • Maintain accurate drawing records, revisions and version control.
  • Manage competing priorities while ensuring drawings are delivered accurately and within project deadlines.

About You:

  • Strong AutoCAD proficiency.
  • Previous experience producing residential site layouts and housing schemes.
  • Experience working on new-build housing and/or apartment developments.
  • A good understanding of residential layouts, floor plans and building elevations.
  • Knowledge of UK planning requirements and Building Regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to design.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with planning, technical and design teams.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Relevant residential design experience is essential; formal qualifications are not a prerequisite.
