This is an excellent opportunity to join my client, an industry-leading, innovative Multidisciplinary Consultancy, dedicated to broadening their geographical reach by establishing a new office location in beautiful Scotland. Renowned for lending their expertise to an exciting range of projects across the landscape architecture, planning, and civil engineering fields, they are actively seeking a skilled, enthusiastic Principal Civil Engineer with extensive knowledge of infrastructure design, who is willing to win, manage, and successfully deliver a diverse range of challenging projects across the region. You will have a genuine hand in establishing and leading a team of design professionals, based near the scenic, family-friendly city of Dunfermline.

Responsibilities for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • Leading an array of infrastructure design projects and developments
  • Managing the day-to-day running of projects, from inception through to successful delivery/implementation
  • Providing mentorship and support to colleagues as they progress through their careers with the company, overseeing their Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Building and maintaining important professional relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Preparing, checking, and submitting reports, drawings, calculations, risk assessments, and other technical documents
  • Promoting company policies, procedures, and best practice at all times
  • Enforcing the appropriate health and safety standards and regulations, setting examples
  • Contributing to the company’s business development strategies, acting as a trusted representative at client meetings, site visits, and other events
  • Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A UK Bachelor’s (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering
  • Possess Chartered Status with a recognised Professional Body (e.g., ICE)
  • Extensive experience in an infrastructure design role, within a UK-based consultancy (or Local Authority) setting
  • Demonstrable experience of working with infrastructure (especially drainage and highways), housing developments, and energy projects
  • Experience of earthworks design and drainage network modelling
  • Proficient in the use of various software packages (to include Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Considerable experience of writing, checking, and amending reports and other technical documents for submission
  • Experience of managing people and projects within the industry
  • Prior experience of managing client and stakeholder relations, influencing Business Development (BD)
  • Outstanding organisation, time management, team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Hold a full, valid UK driving licence
  • Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Civil Engineer include:

  • A Master’s Degree (or higher qualification) in a relevant discipline
  • Experience of preparing Flood Risk and/or Transport Assessments
  • Experience of working in a public-facing role
