Penguin Recruitment are delighted to be supporting a leading planning and environmental consultancy with the appointment of a Senior Planner to join their growing Newcastle team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Planner with 3+ years' consultancy experience who is looking to take the next step in their career, work on a diverse range of exciting projects, and develop their professional expertise within an established and supportive team.

The Role

The successful Senior Planner will work across a varied portfolio of public and private sector projects, providing planning advice and supporting clients in securing planning permissions for a range of development schemes.

You will have the opportunity to work across sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, education, retail, energy, leisure, employment and major infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a diverse portfolio of planning projects and clients.
  • Providing high-quality planning advice throughout the development process.
  • Preparing and submitting planning applications.
  • Liaising with clients, local authorities, stakeholders and communities.
  • Supporting projects across areas including renewable energy, environmental, marine and major infrastructure.
  • Contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and wider environmental projects.
  • Managing projects from inception through to completion, ensuring deadlines and client expectations are met.
  • Keeping up to date with changes to planning legislation, policy and best practice.
  • Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team.
  • Building strong relationships with clients and helping to develop new opportunities.

About You

  • A relevant degree in Planning or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years' experience within planning, ideally gained within a consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system and relevant legislation.
  • Experience managing planning applications and projects from inception to completion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • RTPI Chartered or working towards Chartered status would be advantageous.
  • Experience within EIA, environmental planning, renewable energy or major infrastructure would be desirable.
