Day-to-Day
Your typical day will involve:
- Designing and developing innovative electrical systems for a variety of building types.
- Conducting site visits to assess existing systems and gather data for project planning.
- Collaborating with clients, architects, and contractors to ensure project requirements are met.
- Preparing detailed technical reports, schematics, and design proposals.
- Ensuring all designs comply with UK regulations and industry standards.
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
Responsibilities
As an Electrical/Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Develop electrical layouts for commercial and residential buildings, including power distribution, lighting & lighting control systems, and life safety systems.
- Conduct independent site surveys to assess existing systems, gather technical data, and create detailed reports and schematics with actionable recommendations.
- Design lighting, CCTV, telecoms, and fire alarm systems.
- Confidently present design proposals and reports to clients, explaining technical aspects in clear, non-technical terms.
- Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and other team members to ensure timely project delivery while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
- Ensure all designs meet UK regulations and industry standards, including LET Wiring Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and BSRIA guides.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience in building services electrical design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Trimble, Dialux or Relux, and other relevant design software.
- Strong understanding of UK building regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical designs and reports to clients and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective client-facing communication and presentation skills.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
