A growing water and environmental consultancy is looking for an experienced Senior Hydrologist to join its Manchester team.

The role will involve delivering a varied portfolio of hydrology and water-sector projects, with particular exposure to water quality, storm overflows, catchment investigations and environmental assessment.

The Role

  • Lead the delivery of hydrology projects from inception through to completion.
  • Undertake hydrological assessments, catchment analysis and flood hydrology studies.
  • Deliver and support Storm Overflow Assessment Framework (SOAF) studies and storm overflow investigations.
  • Analyse rainfall, river flow, water quality and wider environmental datasets.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, assessments and supporting documentation.
  • Provide technical input into water quality, wastewater and catchment management projects.
  • underttakes flood frequency analysis, rainfall-runoff assessments and climate change assessments.
  • Support projects for water companies, regulators, developers and public-sector clients.

Undertake site visits and field investigations where required.

  • Liaise directly with clients, regulators and other project stakeholders.
  • Manage project programmes, budgets and technical deliverables.
  • Review technical work and provide mentoring and support to junior team members.
  • Contribute to bids, fee proposals and business development activities.
  • Work collaboratively with hydraulic modellers, water quality specialists, engineers and environmental consultants.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have

  • A degree in Hydrology, Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within hydrology, water resources or water/environmental consultancy.
  • Experience delivering or supporting SOAF studies, storm overflow investigations or wastewater-related projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK hydrology and the water environment.
  • Experience analysing hydrological, water quality and environmental datasets.
  • Knowledge of WINEP, AMP programmes and UK water-sector regulatory requirements would be advantageous.
  • Experience with hydrological, hydraulic or water-quality modelling software.
  • Strong technical report writing and numerical analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients.
  • Experience managing projects and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake site work.
  • Chartered status or working towards CIWEM, ICE or a similar professional qualification would be advantageous.
