An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Transport Planner to join a growing Transport Planning team based in Godalming, Surrey.
The successful candidate will work across a diverse portfolio of development planning projects throughout the UK, covering residential, commercial, education, healthcare, industrial and mixed-use developments. This is a senior technical position where you will take responsibility for managing projects from initial feasibility through to planning determination and post-consent support. You will work closely with clients, planning consultants, architects, developers and local authorities, whilst also providing technical guidance and mentoring to more junior members of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a range of development planning projects from inception through to completion.
- Prepare, review and oversee Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Technical Notes and Access Appraisals.
- Undertake and review junction capacity assessments using Junctions 11, PICADY, ARCADY and LinSig.
- Provide technical transport planning advice to clients throughout the planning process.
- Liaise with Local Planning Authorities, Highway Authorities and other statutory consultees.
- Manage project programmes, budgets and deliverables across multiple commissions.
- Mentor and support Graduate and Consultant-level Transport Planners.
- Undertake technical reviews and maintain high standards of report quality.
- Keep up to date with relevant transport planning policy, guidance and industry best practice.
- Assist with fee proposals, project scopes and wider business development where appropriate.
About You
You will ideally have:
- 5+ years' experience within UK development planning transport consultancy.
- A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport planning policy, standards and guidance.
- Proven experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
- Strong experience using Junctions 11 and LinSig.
- Excellent report writing, analytical and communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Confidence dealing with clients, developers, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues and reviewing technical work.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with TRICS and TEMPro.
- Knowledge of GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Experience with wider transport modelling and analysis software.
- Experience supporting business development and maintaining client relationships.
- Progress towards, or an interest in achieving, CIHT Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP) status.
