Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a renowned consultancy to assist in hiring an experienced Senior Acoustic Consultant. This position is permanent, offers a competitive salary, and includes an excellent benefits package. The successful candidate can be based at offices in Leicester, Birmingham, or Nottingham.

As part of this role, you'll contribute to diverse projects in the residential, commercial, infrastructure, and public sectors. From initial assessments to planning support and detailed design through project completion, this is an outstanding opportunity to play a pivotal role in growing a dynamic team while advancing your career in an encouraging, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the growth and development of the Acoustic team.
  • Attending client and project team meetings, as well as liaising with external stakeholders.
  • Providing exceptional client service to secure repeat business and new opportunities.
  • Conducting environmental noise, vibration, and building acoustics assessments.
  • Performing site visits, sound insulation testing, noise monitoring, and presenting data analysis.
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports, calculations, and other necessary documentation.
  • Developing acoustic models using software such as CadnaA or SoundPLAN.
  • Adhering to quality assurance procedures and technical standards across all projects.
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Mentoring junior team members to enhance their technical skills and professional development.
  • Assisting with business development activities, including fee proposals and client relationship management.
  • Staying current on changes in legislation, standards, and best practices within the industry.

Project Management Duties:

  • Managing acoustic projects from various sectors, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
  • Overseeing project administration, including resource allocation and client liaison.
  • Building strong relationships with clients to promote repeat business.
  • Supporting the financial management of projects, including drafting proposals and invoicing.

Qualifications

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Acoustics, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in consultancy within environmental and/or building acoustics.
  • Membership or working towards membership of the Institute of Acoustics.
  • Strong understanding of legislation and British Standards (e.g., BS4142, BS8233, ProPG, Approved Document O).
  • Proficiency in acoustic modelling software such as CadnaA or SoundPLAN.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and confidently interact with clients.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and projects.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior colleagues.
  • A valid UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Building Acoustics testing (UKAS/SITMA) and knowledge of Approved Document E.
  • Familiarity with delivering BREEAM acoustic assessments.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Conducting on-site noise monitoring and sound insulation testing.
  • Creating detailed acoustic models and producing technical reports.
  • Participating in client meetings to outline project requirements and provide updates.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on integrated solutions.
  • Mentoring junior consultants by providing guidance and support.
  • Managing project budgets, timelines, and communications with clients.
  • Staying informed about evolving standards, legislation, and industry practices.
