Head of Planning
Location: East Molesey
Are you an experienced planning professional looking to take the next step in your career? Our client, a well-established developer, is seeking a Head of Planning to lead their planning function. This role is key in shaping the company\’s planning strategy, supporting land acquisitions, and managing planning applications across multiple business areas.
The Role:
As Head of Planning, you will work closely with senior leadership to provide expert advice on planning matters, ensuring successful project delivery from land acquisition through to development. You will manage planning applications, liaise with local authorities, and keep the business informed on emerging policy changes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning Advice: Appraising land opportunities and advising directors on the best planning strategies.
- Land Acquisition Support: Providing input on planning considerations, including CIL and s106 contributions, to support land bids and acquisitions.
- Planning Applications: Leading the preparation and management of planning applications of all scales, including pre-applications, Section 73 applications, and appeals.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaising with local planning authorities, councillors, and consultants to navigate the planning process efficiently.
- Policy & Compliance: Keeping the business updated on emerging planning and policy changes, advising on their potential impact.
- Design & Development: Collaborating with design teams to ensure compliance with planning policies while maintaining design integrity.
- Project Delivery: Supporting site teams with planning-related matters during the construction phase.
- Reporting & Leadership: Establishing planning processes, chairing planning meetings, and reporting on planning workloads to senior management.
About You:
- RTPI qualified (or equivalent).
- Strong experience in planning within a consultancy, developer, or housebuilder environment.
- Proven track record of managing complex planning applications and appeals.
- Excellent understanding of UK planning regulations, policy changes, and local authority processes.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to align planning strategy with business goals.
