Our client is a well-established and growing ecological consultancy based in Essex, working across the residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors. Due to an expanding workload, they are now seeking an enthusiastic Ecologist to join their friendly and professional team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist looking to develop their career within a supportive consultancy that values high-quality survey work, clear reporting and strong client relationships.

The Role

You will be involved in a wide range of ecological projects from initial site walkovers through to protected species surveys, impact assessments and mitigation strategies. The role offers a good balance of fieldwork and report writing, with opportunities to gain experience across multiple disciplines. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out Phase 1 habitat surveys and Preliminary Ecological Appraisals
  • Undertaking protected species surveys (bats, GCN, reptiles, birds, etc.)
  • Assisting with Ecological Impact Assessments and mitigation design
  • Writing clear and concise ecological reports
  • Liaising with clients, planners and other environmental professionals

About You

Our client is looking for someone who is motivated, reliable and keen to progress within consultancy. You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related subject
  • Some experience in ecological consultancy or relevant fieldwork
  • Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Protected species licences (particularly bats or great crested newts) would be highly advantageous but are not essential.
