Are you looking to work for a leading multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure, development and energy projects across the UK? Due to continued expansion, they are seeking a Principal Engineering Geologist to join their growing Exeter team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineering Geologist looking to take on a senior technical and project leadership role, managing ground investigations, mentoring junior staff and supporting the continued growth of a well-established consultancy.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead the planning, management and delivery of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects across a diverse range of sectors including infrastructure, residential, commercial, industrial and renewable energy developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and delivering ground investigation projects from tender stage through to completion.
  • Designing and specifying intrusive site investigations, including boreholes, trial pits and in-situ testing.
  • Supervising and overseeing site operations, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Reviewing and interpreting geological, geotechnical and environmental data.
  • Producing and reviewing factual and interpretative reports.
  • Providing geotechnical advice relating to foundations, earthworks, slope stability and ground hazards.
  • Managing project budgets, programmes and client expectations.
  • Leading client meetings and developing long-term relationships.
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers and engineering geologists.
  • Supporting business development activities, fee proposals and framework opportunities.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with industry standards.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering Geology, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
  • Significant consultancy experience within engineering geology and ground investigation.
  • Strong understanding of geological and geotechnical principles.
  • Extensive experience designing and managing ground investigations.
  • Proven experience producing and reviewing interpretative reports.
  • Strong project management and client-facing skills.
  • Commercial awareness and experience managing project finances.
  • Full UK driving licence.
