Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading independent planning consultancy in the appointment of a Director of Planning to join their growing Cardiff team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to take on a senior leadership position within an ambitious and people-focused consultancy. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading projects, developing client relationships, supporting the growth of the Cardiff office and contributing to the wider strategic direction of the business.

The Role

  • Lead and manage a diverse portfolio of planning projects across the UK.
  • Provide high-level strategic and commercially focused planning advice to clients.
  • Take responsibility for complex planning applications, appeals and strategic planning matters.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
  • Lead business development activities and identify new opportunities.
  • Help develop and grow the Cardiff planning team.
  • Mentor, support and develop junior and senior members of the team.
  • Play an active role in recruitment, team development and succession planning.
  • Represent the business at industry events and networking opportunities.
  • Contribute to the wider strategic growth and success of the consultancy.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business.

About You

  • We are looking for an experienced planning professional who is MRTPI qualified with significant planning consultancy experience.
  • Operating at Associate Director, Director or equivalent level.
  • Experienced across a broad range of sectors and planning projects.
  • Confident managing complex planning matters and providing strategic advice.
  • Commercially astute with a strong track record of client management and business development.
  • Able to develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • An experienced people manager who enjoys mentoring and developing teams.
  • A strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ambitious, proactive and keen to play a key role in the continued growth of a successful planning consultancy.
  • A strong team player with the ability to contribute at both local office and national level.
