Are you an experienced Civil Engineer with expertise in S278 and highway design? This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected independent consultancy and contribute to a diverse range of projects across Birmingham and the wider Midlands.
The Opportunity
You will work on a mix of projects, from small local highway improvements to large residential and commercial developments. Typical schemes include roundabouts, signalised junctions, ghost-island right turns, and priority junctions. This is your chance to play a key role in a growing team and help deliver technically excellent, buildable solutions.
What You Will Be Doing
- Lead or support the design of Section 278 schemes and associated highway works
- Prepare drawings and models using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Vehicle Tracking, and KeyLINES/SIGN/POST software
- Produce high-quality, compliant designs in line with DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN1/20, and other national standards
- Work closely with local authorities, National Highways, and developers to ensure technical compliance
- Provide input on drainage design and adoption processes for S38 and S104 agreements
- Mentor junior staff and support their technical development
- Assist with fee proposals, bids, and technical reports
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification
- Experience designing S278 access junctions from concept to detailed design
- Familiarity with local authority and National Highways processes
- Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D, 3D modelling, and drainage design desirable
- Strong organisation, communication, and report-writing skills
- Experience with public realm, active travel, or cycling infrastructure schemes advantageous
