An established and growing organisation within the civil engineering and infrastructure sector is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Cardiff. The position of Quantity Surveyor offers the opportunity to play a key role in the successful commercial delivery of projects from tender stage through to final account. Working closely with Project Managers, Site Teams and wider business functions, you will contribute to cost management, subcontractor administration and commercial reporting across a variety of projects throughout Cardiff and surrounding areas.

Requirements for the role of Quantity Surveyor:

  • HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, or relevant industry experience within a Quantity Surveying role
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure sectors
  • Working knowledge of UK contracts, including NEC and JCT forms of contract
  • Experience supporting cost control and commercial management on active projects
  • Understanding of subcontractor management processes, including valuations, payments and final accounts
  • Knowledge of commercial reporting processes, including cost reporting and margin tracking
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across project teams
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Full UK driving licence preferred due to travel requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the commercial management of projects from tender stage through to final account.
  • Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost plans and forecasts.
  • Monitor project performance and provide regular commercial updates to Project Managers and clients.
  • Support the identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Attend commercial and project progress meetings.
  • Provide commercial input relating to design and methodology changes.
  • Procure and manage specialist subcontractors, including negotiating subcontract terms and ensuring appropriate risk allocation.
  • Administer subcontractor payments, variations and final accounts.
  • Prepare and submit interim valuations to clients and support the agreement of project valuations and final accounts.
  • Assess subcontractor applications and certify payments.
  • Identify, price and negotiate variations and compensation events while maintaining accurate records to support claims.
  • Support the management of change under NEC and other forms of contract.
  • Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), forecast final account positions and margins, and report on commercial performance.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate costings and efficient project delivery.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and best practice across all activities.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required to support the needs of the business and the successful delivery of projects.
