The position of Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects across the residential, commercial, infrastructure and energy sectors. You will play a key role in project delivery, technical leadership and client development while working alongside industry-leading specialists in a collaborative environment.
Requirements for the role
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
- Chartered status (or working towards Chartership) with a relevant professional body
- Extensive experience within a geotechnical design consultancy environment
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design and earthworks engineering
- Experience using geotechnical design software and numerical modelling packages
- Proven ability to manage projects and mentor junior engineers
- Excellent report‑writing and communication skills
- Commercial awareness and experience liaising directly with clients
- Full UK driving licence preferred
Duties and responsibilities
- Lead the design of foundations, retaining structures, slopes and earthworks solutions.
- Undertake complex geotechnical analysis and design calculations.
- Review and interpret ground investigation data and geotechnical reports.
- Prepare and review technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
- Manage projects from initial feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction support.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.
- Attend client meetings and develop strong professional relationships.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Undertake site visits and provide technical support during construction phases.
- Ensure compliance with relevant design standards, legislation and industry best practice.
- Support business development activities, including tender preparation and project proposals.
