Are you an experienced Structural Engineer looking for more influence, more variety, and a clearer route to shaping the future of a growing consultancy? Our client is a small, ambitious engineering consultancy based in Bristol, delivering high-quality structural design across residential, commercial, education, and mixed‑use projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, we're looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to play a key role in leading projects, mentoring engineers, and helping drive the business forward.

The Role

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to delivery, working closely with clients, architects, and contractors. You'll have the opportunity to lead a talented team while remaining hands‑on technically.

Responsibilities

  • Leading structural design on a range of building projects
  • Managing project delivery, budgets, and client relationships
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and technicians
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
  • Contributing to business development and helping grow the Bristol office
  • Ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with leadership and commercial awareness.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status (MIStructE or MICE)
  • Significant UK consultancy experience
  • Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, timber, and masonry design
  • Experience leading projects and managing clients independently
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills
  • A proactive, collaborative approach
