Are you looking to take the next step in your Principal Designer career? Our client, a respected engineering consultancy currently working on projects in Bristol, is seeking a motivated Principal Designer to join their expanding team, supporting the delivery of a wide range of Environment Agency projects across the South West. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around five years' construction industry design experience who is looking to develop their career within a supportive, multidisciplinary consultancy delivering nationally significant infrastructure and environmental projects.
The Role of Principal Designer:
- Working as part of an experienced team, you will assist in delivering the Principal Designer role in accordance with the CDM Regulations 2015.
- You will work alongside clients, designers and contractors to help identify, manage and reduce health and safety risks throughout the design process.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the delivery of Principal Designer duties under CDM Regulations 2015.
- Coordinating design risk management throughout project lifecycles.
- Reviewing design information to identify and eliminate foreseeable construction and operational risks.
- Assisting with design risk workshops and providing CDM advice to project teams.
- Liaising with clients, designers and contractors to promote safe and compliant design.
- Preparing and reviewing pre-construction information and health and safety documentation.
- Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of CDM best practice across the business.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Around five years' relevant construction industry experience in design.
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a recognised professional institution.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or an equivalent health and safety qualification).
- A good understanding of the CDM Regulations 2015 and their practical application.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with multidisciplinary project teams.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering safe, practical design solutions.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working on Environment Agency projects or within the water, flood defence or environmental infrastructure sectors.
- Working towards Chartered status or further professional development.
