A well‑established, design‑led geotechnical consultancy in Birmingham is looking to appoint a Geotechnical Design Engineer to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys the technical side of geotechnics and wants to focus on analysis, calculations and detailed design rather than purely site supervision. You will be joining a respected team delivering high‑quality foundation and retaining structure designs across residential, commercial and infrastructure projects throughout the Midlands and across the UK. The role offers a strong mix of technical responsibility, collaboration with structural and civil teams, and genuine progression within a supportive consultancy environment.
The Role
- Producing detailed geotechnical designs including shallow and deep foundations
- Retaining wall design (RC, sheet pile, embedded walls)
- Slope stability and earthworks assessments
- Bearing capacity and settlement analysis
- Pile design and interpretation of pile testing data
- Reviewing ground investigation reports and deriving design parameters
- Liaising with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams
- Supporting junior engineers where appropriate
Requirements
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline
- 3+ years' experience within a geotechnical consultancy
- Strong understanding of Eurocode 7
- Experience using design software such as GeoStudio, WALLAP, Oasys or similar
- Confident producing clear, technically accurate design reports
- Working towards Chartership (ICE or similar)
