The position of Mechanical Cleaner offers a practical, hands-on role within a growing sector. You will play a key part in maintaining pile cloth filtration systems that support wastewater treatment processes and help sites achieve environmental compliance standards. This role would suit someone with a strong work ethic, good attention to detail, and an interest in mechanical maintenance.
Requirements for the Role:
- Practical experience in mechanical, maintenance, cleaning, or industrial environments
- Good attention to detail and ability to identify equipment faults or defects
- Ability to work safely and follow site procedures
- Strong work ethic and willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions
- Comfortable undertaking manual handling activities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Full UK driving licence preferred
Desirable:
- Experience within wastewater treatment works or the water industry
- Knowledge of tertiary treatment systems such as pile cloth filters, disc filters, or sand filters
- Basic mechanical maintenance skills
- Confined Space Training
- CSCS Card (Green minimum)
- Safety Passport
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean pile cloth filtration units using manual and mechanical cleaning methods
- Remove rags, sludge, screenings, and debris that may impact filtration performance
- Inspect filter cloths and panels for wear, damage, fouling, and reduced flow
- Replace damaged filter cloths and panels in accordance with site procedures
- Carry out routine checks on filter rotation systems, wash cycles, and backwash performance
- Assist with the setup, shutdown, and monitoring of filtration equipment
- Identify and report flow restrictions, excessive headloss, or abnormal equipment performance
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, cleaning activities, and repairs
- Operate cleaning equipment, wash-down systems, lifting equipment, and hand tools safely
- Handle and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH requirements
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within operational areas
- Dispose of waste materials responsibly and in line with environmental regulations
