A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join a highly respected multidisciplinary consultancy in Winchester. This senior position is ideal for an experienced geotechnical professional looking to lead technically challenging projects, mentor junior staff, and play a key role in the continued growth of an expanding geotechnical team.

The successful Principal Geotechnical Engineer will manage a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, commercial, residential, and energy projects across the South of England. You will be responsible for overseeing ground investigations, providing technical leadership, managing client relationships, and contributing to business development activities.

The successful Principal Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Managing and delivering geotechnical projects from tender stage through to completion
  • Leading and reviewing geotechnical interpretative reports and foundation recommendations
  • Providing technical support and mentoring to junior engineers and geologists
  • Designing foundations, retaining structures, and slope stability solutions
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting business development and helping secure new projects
  • Managing project budgets, resources, and programme delivery

The successful Principal Geotechnical Engineer will have:

  • A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline
  • Significant consultancy experience within geotechnical engineering
  • Strong experience with ground investigation and geotechnical design
  • Chartered status or progress towards chartership (ICE or Geological Society preferred)
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills
  • Experience managing projects and mentoring teams
  • A full UK driving licence
