We are seeking an experienced and commercially aware Principal Geoenvironmental Consultant to join a well-established and growing environmental and engineering consultancy in Sheffield. This is a key leadership role offering the opportunity to shape projects, mentor a talented team, and play a pivotal role in the continued growth of the business.
The Role
You will lead the delivery of complex geoenvironmental projects across sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure. Alongside technical delivery, you will take ownership of client relationships and contribute to business development activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and delivering Phase 1 and Phase 2 geoenvironmental assessments
- Leading contamination risk assessments and remediation strategies
- Reviewing and signing off technical reports
- Designing and overseeing site investigations
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring junior staff
- Managing project programmes, budgets, and resources
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
- Supporting business development, tenders, and proposals
- Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and best practice
Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering Geology, or similar
- Extensive experience in geoenvironmental consultancy (typically 7+ years)
- Strong knowledge of UK contaminated land legislation and guidance
- Proven experience managing complex projects and teams
- Excellent report writing and technical review skills
- Strong commercial awareness and client-facing experience
Desirable
- Chartered status (e.g. Geological Society of London, Society for the Environment, or similar)
- Experience delivering large or multi-disciplinary projects
- Track record in winning work and developing business opportunities
- Knowledge of geotechnical principles
