Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well-established, independent multidisciplinary consultancy in the search for a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join its growing Development Planning team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner looking to take ownership of a varied project portfolio while working closely with developers, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams.

The successful candidate will work on a diverse range of development planning projects, supporting schemes from initial feasibility and site promotion through to planning, approval and delivery. You’ll be part of a collaborative team working alongside highways, infrastructure, drainage, environmental and place‑making specialists, giving you the opportunity to influence projects from an early stage.

The Role

You will lead and manage development planning projects, preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, access appraisals, feasibility studies and supporting technical documentation. The role involves advising clients throughout the planning process, including pre‑application discussions, planning submissions, planning conditions and Section 106 and Section 278 matters. You will liaise directly with developers, planning consultants, architects, local planning and highway authorities, while managing project programmes, budgets and mentoring junior team members. Principal‑level candidates will also have the opportunity to contribute to business development, client relationships and fee proposals.

About You

The successful candidate is likely to have:

  • Strong UK development planning experience within a consultancy environment.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and supporting technical reports.
  • Knowledge of TRICS, TEMPro and junction modelling software such as Junctions, LinSig or similar.
  • Experience working with developers, planning consultants, architects, local authorities and highway authorities.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage projects, client relationships and competing deadlines.
  • A collaborative approach with an interest in supporting and mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience across residential, mixed‑use, commercial, retail or regeneration projects would be advantageous.
  • Membership of CIHT, TPS, CILT or another relevant professional institution, or working towards chartership, would also be welcomed.
