The Role
Reporting to the Planning Director, the Senior Planner will be responsible for promoting land through the planning system and securing planning permissions to support the regional business plan. Key responsibilities include:
- Producing site appraisals, planning histories, and detailed policy analysis for immediate and strategic sites
- Managing and submitting planning applications (Outline, Full, Reserved Matters) and discharging planning conditions
- Liaising with landowners, internal design teams, consultants, and Local Planning Authorities
- Preparing Design & Access Statements and supporting planning documentation
- Attending stakeholder and public consultation events
- Formulating planning strategies to promote sites through Local Plan processes
- Supporting land promotion activity and maintaining a strong pipeline of deliverable sites
- Mentoring and training junior team members
- Assisting the Planning Director with business‑critical decisions and attending regional meetings when required
About You
The successful Senior Planner will have:
- Proven experience leading planning applications in either the private or public sector
- A degree or master’s in Town Planning with RTPI accreditation
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and development management
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to work accurately under pressure in a commercial environment
- A proactive, enthusiastic, and collaborative approach
- A full UK driving licence
